ANALYSIS OF TETFUND INTRVENTIONS IN IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF BUSINESS EDUCATION IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN EDO AND DELTA STATES

ABSTRACT:

The purpose of this study was to assess the extent of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) in improving the quality of business education in tertiary institutions in Edo and Delta States. In realization of this purpose, four research questions and eight hypotheses were formulated for the study. The study was restricted to business educators in tertiary institutions in Edo and Delta States. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study was 235 business educators which is the total number of business educators in tertiary institutions in Edo and Delta States. The size was considered manageable for the study hence no sampling was drawn and no sampling technique was required. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire. The reliability of the instrument was ensured by administering it to twenty (20) academic staff from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akoko, Ondo State who were not part of the population and reliability coefficients of 0.72, 0.60, 0.70 and 0.79 was obtained for the five clusters respectively using Crombach Alpha. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation was used to analyze the research questions while the z-test statistic was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.The study revealed that there was no significant difference between the mean responses of male and female business educators regarding Tetfund provision to physical infrastructure and equipment, training and development and academic research growth in improving the quality of business education in tertiary institutions in Edo and Delta States. Also there was no significant difference between the mean responses of business educators in different tertiary institutions regarding tetfund provision of physical infrastructure and equipment, training and development and academic research in improving the quality of business education in Edo and Delta States. The study further revealed that there was a significant difference between male and female business educators and business educators from different tertiary institutions regarding Tetfund assistance in book publication in improving the quality of business education. The researcher recommended that business educators should be subjected to training and re training in order to meet the changing technologies in the world of work and that there is need for adequate funding of business education in order to improve the quality of business education in tertiary institutions in Edo and Delta States.
