ABSTRACT:

The thrust of this study was on Implementation of Music Education Curriculum in Deeper Christian Life Ministry’s (DCLM) Schools South-West Zone, Nigeria. The justification for this study was on the need to improve on the existing protocol on the implementation of the music curriculum in the Deeper Life High Schools and International Bible Training College. The objective of the study was to investigate the application of the music curriculum in the DCLM schools, South-West Zone, Nigeria. The researcher employed the methodology of research design through survey and purposive sampling techniques where 50 subjects (Authentic music teachers and those with basic knowledge in music) were used to represent the targeted population of 150 from three of the South West States. The data collection was through validated questionnaire and interview guide by music experts and observational method. Emerging findings highlighted among others, problems of JSS integrated curriculum (Cultural and Creative Arts Curriculum), inadequacy of training materials, time factors, unqualified personnel and lack of motivation. Hence it is recommended that music as a subject be separated from the integrated curriculum (CCA), employment of qualified personnel for music lessons, encouragement of music education at JSSC and SSC examinations. Government support through provision of instructional materials, music studios, musical instruments and other facilities will enhance effective teaching and learning for greater interest and achievement in music in Nigerian schools.
